Qibao is the nearest old town from central Shangai. It goes back to the Han Dynasty and developed in early Song Dynasty, Ming and Qing dynasties flourished, so far Qibao has 1000 years of history with a rich cultural heritage.
Qibao means “seven treasures”. So it’s said that the “seven treasure” are: flying Buddha, temple bell, gold lotus scripture , the sacred tree, golden chicken , jade axes and jade chopsticks.
Historically Qibao town is a typical Jiangnan town and important rural town. It located North of the Wusong River and south of the Huangpu River. There are more than ten branch rivers in Qibao town. There are 27 stone bridges connecting the streets.
If you visit Qibao town one day, there are some stops you must have on your to-do list. One place is the “old business pavilion “. You can see many traditional old businesses, such as blacksmiths, coppersmiths, carpenters, compiled maker, tailor shops, bar maker, the system scales, fortune-telling and so on.

Square cake. Famous local snack food, very tasty, a lot of people from central Shanghai are dedicated to buy some square cake.
Qibao lamb restaurants. Mainly focused on sliced lamb and lamb soup. The taste is very good. So because it’s good reputation, you may see a long line waiting to buy lamb.
And when you are in Qibao, don’t miss two places. One is Yinqixing indoor ski resort: known as China’s largest indoor ski resort. Another place is Storm Water Park: It is one of Asia’s largest outdoor water park.
How to go to Qibao town? You can take a taxi, or the metro which is very easy and convenient. Take Metro Line 9, get off at Qibao Station.
